Social Morals – 11 Philosophical Questions

I have always wondered, when put to the question, what answers today’s culture in these United States would offer in response to some of humanity’s most questionable yet common occurrences in everyday life. To get the juices flowing, I am providing a list of those philosophical questions and would love your insights:

1. social-morals-picture 1Why is it that some in modern culture love a newborn baby, but as a child, would deny it basic staples and healthcare because both working parents are too insolvent?

2. Why is it that some in modern culture strive for peace, yet when presented with an opportunity for negotiation, prompt for war?social-morals-picture 2

3. Why is it that some in modern culture pray for medical breakthroughs social-morals-picture 3for cancer and other devastating diseases, yet fight against medical research to do just that?

4. Why is it that some in modern culture cannot understand why we have droughts and super hurricanes, yet continue to destroy the ozone?social-morals-picture 4

5. social-morals-picture 5Why is it that all people in modern culture want clean water and air to breathe, yet continue to pollute the very environments in which we live?

6. Why is it that some in modern culture promote “pro-life” whilst promotingsocial-morals-picture 6 weaponry and violence intended for the sole killing of other human beings?

7. social-morals-picture 7Why is it that some in modern culture do not approve of assisted suicide in terminal illness, yet condone capital punishment?

8. Why is it that some in modern culture teach compassion, love and sharing; yet their actions (or inaction) demonstrate the complete opposite?social-morals-picture 8

9. social-morals-picture 9Why is it that some in modern culture love a puppy or kitten, then tie it to a chain in the elements or give it away because it’s a grown cat or dog?

10. Why is it that some in modern culture tell us to feed the poor and house the homeless, yet regret it when we do?social-morals-picture 10

11. Why is it that some in modern culture call our soldiers heroes, but social-morals-picture 11when wounded warriors come back tattered and torn, they aren’t given appropriate medical or psychological care?

I would genuinely love your thoughts (and maybe some solutions) on these questions and how you would answer these to a five year-old — who just may be sitting back watching and learning as the world unfolds before his or her eyes.
