Edisto Island…a little slice of Heaven

There aren’t too many places I’ve been to that I recall being so close to experiencing a slice of Heaven, then in Edisto Island, South Carolina. From Lawton, Oklahoma, to Playa Linda Beach, Florida, to Munich, Germany – no place I’ve been to or lived can compare.

Edisto Island - Dawn Breaking

With a population of just over 2,000, Edisto Island is the perfect destination of choice for weary workers seeking the solace and comfort of a home away from home…without the stress and anxiety of day-to-day life, work, and deadlines.

While renting a spacious cabin less than two blocks from the ocean shore, I could hear the rushing of waves, the squawking of seagulls, and only the soft Atlantic breeze stirring the way. At home, I only yearned to sleep in late on the weekends; but at Edisto Island, I felt exhilarated, refreshed, rested, relaxed…and tremendously at peace. Every morning, I awoke before the sun rose just so I could make it to the beach to watch the brilliant egg yoke rise above the blue seas. Ah, what a rush! I’d sit upon the sand, squish the sand between my toes and look beyond the rocky breakers to catch the golden globe as it ascended into the early morning sky. Ah.

Because the population is relatively small, and its rich ocean line is virtually unspoiled by commercial industries, you can enjoy the beach the way nature intended. Of course if you really want to purchase a souvenir, a T-shirt, or other memorabilia (including large shark teeth), you can peruse local shops that are in walking distance from the beach cabin neighborhoods.

While there, you can casually stroll along the beach, surf-fish, swim, play a round of golf, or bicycle around the quaint little town. This is not the place to go if you’re seeking an active night life or party atmosphere. In fact, Edisto Island offers quite the opposite – utter lucidity in the wake of a fast-paced world. For what else could any person ask?

Can’t wait to go back again…
