Nostalgia

In a blink of an eye
Like a speeding run-away train
Pages of a lifetime
Are quickly wisped away

Like the dawning moon
And the setting day
The rising tides
And moonlight haze

In a blink of an eye
Tomorrow’s come and gone
Yesterday’s a memory
Like a sad, old country song

Forgotten – are the moments
From times you knew so well
Skipping stones ‘cross rippled waters
Tossing coins in a wishing well

Cane-pole fishing by wooden docksides
Hiking trails ‘neath a mossy grove
Twilight’s campfire stories
Bareback riding on an autumn foal

In a blink of an eye
Like a speeding run-away train
Pages of a lifetime
Are quickly wisped away
hour-glass
Suddenly, you’re sixteen
Midnight drive-ins, cruising town
Lost in the wealth of vitality
Beach parties, laughter, the prom

Home games, roller derby
Backseat rendezvous
Stolen hearts and distant dreams
High school rings, graduation too

In a blink of an eye
Tomorrow’s come and gone
Yesterday’s a memory
Like a sad, old country song

And as we recollect
Life’s nostalgic mystery
Reflections of our lifetime
Coexist in harmony

So with somber persuasion
We learn to realize
That time – a fleeting token
Disappears in a blink of an eye.
